Alex Kirby uses acoustic guitar, vocals and harmonica to deliver simply beautifulself-penned songs that are lyrical and melodic, dynamic and poignant. His all original sets are booked regularly across a variety of venue types, cafe bars to pubs, art centers to festivals.Following the success of the debut album 'Love to be with you' the eagerly awaited second release out this autumn promises to push further the benchmark of quality that he has set for himself.Alex Kirby is a hard working songwriter on the circuit. Living in Whitby, North Yorkshire Alex has come through the local scene holding down residencies, running open mic nights, forging new venues and relying on his own material as the mainstay of his reportoire. At this time Musiclikealion was set up which was more a state of mind than a record company and the debut album 'Love to be with you' was born from it. This album was recorded and mixed by Oliver Knight at Panda Sound Studio. As an independent artist Alex struggled financially so the trojan horse Musiclikealion corporately branched out and a classic Morrison Half Cowl ice cream van was aquired and fixed up. Whitby was alive to the sound of greensleeves, Icecreamlikealion was born. The freedom self-employment gave also led Musiclikealion to hire out its only artist to the shadow economy where semi-skilled labouring and grounwork plugged the leaking boat. This proved to be an education in itself Alex heard the songs of Woody Guthrie from workmate Danny as they filled a skip "It takes a worried man to sing a worried song" perspective found all things fell into place. Its the same sh*t in a hundred years time. Alex's live sets are vibrant, colourful and deeprooted in positivity. He can deal with the tough issues of life in his writing but leave you feeling good about them, such is his dark edged optimism. His songs contain the flawed human nature in us all and so appealto a broad spectrum of any audience. With much ground to cover Alex Kirby's appetite for live work has led him to venues up and down the country.
