DJ/Producer Jerry Mane has a new collection of tracks titled 'cubits' on Cairns based label Little Rascal Records. These productions are the more consumable results of the work he has completed over the previous year, Jerry explains - " I've put togeather a collection of my more user friendly tunes and tried to show the diversity I love in music, when it comes to genres electronic production based music has more than a few and producers and Djs normally get put in one of these compartments in an attempt by industry marketing and train spotters to describe what is basically different beat timings. I find its drum & bass thats the style I'm usually pinned down for." Drum & bass is a fair portion of 'Cubits' but it ranges from there to fat or dubby breaks to trip hop to lush cinematic styled downbeat and even a very percussive quirky house styled number. Theres definitely a wide range of musical stylings happening on the album. "I wanted Cubits to reflect all the styles I play in my DJ sets, the D&B on the album is all pretty friendly musically orientated without being dark which is what many often deem D&B to be." (there is one hidden track in the last 10 minutes of the 80 minute album which is the exception). The hardest track on there would have to be the breaks track 'crazee soundbwoy' with its fat driving synth line, but compare it with the lullaby like cinematic stylings of '4 Eva' and Jerrys diversity is apparent. Live instrument playing is also present on many of the tunes. Jarrod Johanson a member of several flying nun bands ( subliminals, bressa creating cake ) plays bass on four tracks while Jerry plays acoustic and electric guitar as well as keyboards though out many tracks. DJ wise Jerry has been playing between N.Z and Oz for almost 10 years which has included many major music festivals and shows in both countries. " I've had a lot of involvement in the strong student radio network in N.Z. which has helped to foster the creative flow of music out of N.Z. and influenced my own wide taste and appreciation of music. Based in Cairns for over a year now and with stints in Sydney in previous years Jerry feels equally at home in N.Z. or Oz. "I love Cairns and the diversity of the people here and to be able to put my twist on the local music scene". You can catch Jerry playing in and around Cairns at the open minded nightspots or upcoming events & festivals or in regular support of international artists. His album "Cubits" is available through "Little Rascal Records" ( lrrecords.com.au ) and good music outlets.
