I was created in London, England, by two rather special Nigerian parents, they named me Olatunji Olugbenga Omotayo Olanrewaju Adetokunbo Abdul Majeed Onabule, after which I had no choice but to move to Nigeria for ten years.
In 1990, my demos came to the attention of Elektra boss Bob Krasnow with whom I signed my first deal (excited anticipation). It ended a year later (not so good!). I spent the next few years scratching my head (hence the lack of hair) surviving in the session wilderness, supplying backing vocals for the likes of George Michael (he's good), KD Lang (she's good), Simply Red (they're good) and Michael Ball (He's good) and many more I would never admit to.
I did jingles, voice-over work, etc, until I decided to set up my label, Rugged Ram Records (long story) to develop and release my creative tings. 1994, First single "You'd Better Believe" released. GRAND RESPONSE!!! Yaaaayyy! I thought I'm rocking now! I've since recorded and released five albums of original material. and a few albums for other cool 'n' nice artistes. All the recordings have enjoyed various degrees of radio support/success, been licensed to compilations and synched to Film and TV (Sometimes I smile...).
I have had the good fortune to open for artistes such as Natalie Cole, Gladys Knight, Diane Reeves, Al Jareau, Patti LaBelle, Tower of Power, Joe Zawinul and Roy Hargrove. Collaborated with Brit uber-jazzer, Courtney Pine, UK black theatre - Nitro and world event organisers, Serious.
I've written commissioned arias for the British Royal Opera House and received sponsorship support from Shure Microphones.
But my crowning achievement by far...being the sole live performer at Posh Spice and David Beckhams wedding (You're lovin' me now!!!!!!!). I don't just laze round the house gettin' under my family's feet. Oh No!!! I get out, I gig... loads... and when I do I always give my all coz I know a man is defined not by what he takes, but what he gives and how.
What follows are quotes from British music press regarding my good self. I assure you no favours were exchanged in the procuring of these words... honest!
"A four octave range voice... achingly beautiful and passionate in it's every expression" The Voice
"This voice is... A lived in, soul drenched, well mastered instrument". by Blues and Soul Magazine
If you like what you've heard so far please go that one step further and tell every one you know, come to a gig with all of them. Big Peace... OLA
