If ever you want to talk about the importance of live instruments in music, you cannot mention any other albums other than Sibu's Day's Alone project. Jazz, soul and R&B music lovers will enjoy the mellow beats infused on this album, promising to set your heart and mind free.
The production and engineering of this album is excellent, evidenced by the fact that every single beat is in the right place and the album has flow. The highlight is undoubtedly the work of the live instruments which add real wonder to this project. Sibu is clearly using her God given singing talent, and channelling it accordingly. All that remains to be seen is whether she will receive the exposure she is so deserving of because people need to hear the good music I've heard.
Tracks to listen to are, Steppin' Stone – which has a touch of jazz and gospel. And if you want to dig into something extra jazzy, the title track Day's Alone , is rich in soulful jazz and is just for you. “ I Wanna Be” is a powerful R&B song that will make you tingle in all the right places.
Thami Mahlobo played a couple of nice piano keys on the track “Unconditional love” , which is so much like an intimate narration that it will make you follow through on each track till completion, because it's like a story that draws you in. “ Guiding Light” is the perfect track that not only complements Sibu's vocal range, but makes you sit up and take notice of her incredible talent.
There are plenty songs present on this offering that are dedicated to your better half; “You are the one” is a perfect example of this whilst “Before you” reflects Sibu's passion for the art of music and treats the listener to the sound of stringed instruments like the violin.
This would appear to be a cross over album, from gospel, jazz to soulful ballads, but the overwhelming style of music can be simply defined as soul R&B in this case.
Since the two boys from Durb's opened doors with their Durban 's Finest, everything that's comes out of the land of Shaka Zulu seems to be destined for success – much like this new album of Sibu. Mzansi watch out, it appears as though Durban 's musicians, producers and sound engineers are not going to stop, not until they are sure we're feeling the heat that they're bringing.
This project can do well in the market but people may need an introduction to Sibu, something best left to a live performance by the artist? This is a well done album though its mastering is lacking. But for those who enjoy good, R&B then I don't see why this album won't sell. Thumbs up Sibu! What a great proudly South African project!
